There’s a new GASB Statement on the horizon. GASB (Government Accounting Standards Board) Statement No. 54 is changing the way governments report fund balances, eliminating the current use of terms “reserved” and “designated” and replacing those terms with a hierarchy of five possible fund balance classifications. It also clarifies the definition of a special revenue fund. Governments are expected to implement Statement 54 no later than the first fiscal year beginning after June 15, 2010. Need help?
